Biography
Betsy Elison was born on October 22, 1846 in Alingsås, Sweden. She was the third of seven children. The Eliasons lived near a lake surrounded by streams and a forest. In 1861, when Betsy was fifteen, the Eliason family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Two years later, they emigrated to America. They journeyed on the B. S. Kimball from Liverpool to New York. The trip took a little over a month, from May 8, 1863 to June 15, 1863. After their arrival in the States, they crossed the plains with the John R. Young wagon company. Along the way they faced harsh weather, cattle stampedes, and sickness. They arrived in the Salt Lake Valley on September 12, 1863.
A month after their arrival in Utah, Betsy died on October 12, 1863. She was not quite seventeen years old. She is buried in the Pioneer Children's Memorial in Salt Lake City.
