Biography
Necoline Emily Olsen was born on November 12, 1851 in Christiania (now called Oslo), Norway. She was the fourth of ten children. In 1861, when she was nine years old, Necoline was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her family also joined the Church. Necoline worked in cotton factories as a child and adolescent, operating power looms.
Eager to join the other Saints, Necoline's family left a few members at a time for Utah, and, in 1872, Necoline, her mother, and her four younger siblings finally made the journey. They sailed on the steamship "Nevada" from June 26th to July 8th. After arriving in New York, they traveled by rail to Utah. Once there, Necoline and her family settled in Santaquin, Utah.
On April 14, 1873, Necoline married Andrew Borgeson, a Swedish widower, in Salt Lake City. The couple settled in Santaquin. Necoline had eleven children, ten daughters and a son, with Andrew. She was a prolific weaver on the carpet loom her husband built and was an active member of her church as well as the community. In 1902, Andrew passed away, leaving Necoline a widow. She lived in Santaquin for the rest of her life, passing away there on May 18, 1930 at the age of seventy-eight. She was buried in the Santaquin City Cemetery.
