Biography
Maren Hansen was born on October 14, 1855 in Vridslosemagle, Senglose, Denmark. She was the fifth of eight children. When Maren was only a year old, her parents took her and her siblings and left Denmark, setting out for Utah. Maren made the journey in the ship the "Westmoreland" safely, arriving in Philadelphia on May 31, 1857, but she died a few days after their arrival in the States, on June 6th, as the family was journeying by rail through Ohio. Her parents were forced to give her to a station worker in Toledo, Lucas, Ohio, for burial and continue on their journey without her.
