Biography
Anna Paulsson Okelberry was born on December 9, 1840 in Alberta, Esarp, Skåne, Sweden. She was the third of nine children. At some point around 1860, Anna and her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1862, Anna was the first of her family to leave Sweden to join the other Saints in Utah.
Anna sailed on the ship "Athenia" from Hamburg to New York, arriving in New York on June 9, 1862. She then crossed the plains with the Joseph Horne wagon company, arriving in Salt Lake on October 1, 1862. As she was ill for part of the journey, she was allowed to ride in the wagons at times. Anna went straight from Salt Lake to Grantsville, Tooele, where she settled.
Anna arrived in Grantsville the same day her future husband, Anders Fredrick Anderson, did. They were married the next year, on June 7, 1863. They had ten children together, four daughters and six sons. Anna was very active in her local Relief Society and other social affairs. She was known for being charitable and was always willing to share with those in need, even when she herself was lacking.
Anders passed away on November 9, 1895. Anna remained in Grantsville for the rest of her life, living almost twenty years after Anders's passing. Anna passed away on April 12, 1914, at the age of seventy-three. She was buried in the Grantsville City Cemetery.
