Biography
Maren Oletti Otterbeck was born on October 12, 1855 in Kragerø, Telemark, Norway. She was the second of five children born to Ane Kirstine Jacobsen and Anders Ludvig Otterbeck. Her father unexpectedly died when she was nine years old. Maren’s mother remarried to Anthon Lorenzo Skanchy shortly after her father’s death. Maren was baptized in May 1868. Her family immigrated to Utah a few months later. After arriving in the United States, the Otterbecks joined the Horton D. Haight company to travel to Utah.
Maren married Peter Christensen as his second wife on July 17, 1871 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They had six children together. Maren died young, at the age of 27, on February 24, 1886 in Logan, Utah.
