Biography
Karen Martinsen Moen was born on January 1, 1880 in Brandval, Hedmark, Norway to Randine Engebrechtsen Hammer and Martin Olsen Hanestadmoen. She was the fourth of nine children. She joined the church when she was seventeen. In 1900, Karen was living with her fiancé Hans Leonard Ramm Hansen and his family in Oslo, Norway. Ramm was attending school to become an architect. Karen immigrated to the United States in 1901 and settled in Salt Lake. On September 25, 1906, Karen finally married Ramm Hansen with whom she had five children. Karen’s husband was an architect who designed several prominent buildings in Salt Lake City. He also designed many temples and church meetinghouses across the country. Karen likely spent a lot of time caring for the children while Ramm traveled to survey sites and design buildings. Karen Martinsen Moen Hansen died on October 14, 1973 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was buried in Salt Lake City.
