Biography
Caroline Larson was born on April 25, 1841 in Södra Sallerup, Oxie härad, Malmöhus, Sweden. She was the fourth of eight children. In 1857, her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They left Sweden that same year and crossed the Atlantic on the ship "Tuscarora", arriving in Philadelphia on July 3, 1857.
Once in the States, Caroline and her family remained in Nebraska for two years, working to make money to travel the rest of the way to Utah. Caroline was eighteen when they finally crossed the plains, traveling with the James S. Brown wagon company. Caroline and her sisters found things to enjoy during the journey despite the hardships. Upon arrival in Utah, Caroline and her family settled in Spanish Fork with other Swedish Saints.
In Utah, Caroline met Peter Olsson, whom she quickly married. They settled in Moroni, Sanpete county, and had a son together. However, after two years together, Peter had a fatal accident when he was dragged by a team of horses. He barely had time to say goodbye to his family before he died on January 24, 1862. His brother, Nils, had promised Peter that he would marry and provide for Caroline. Accordingly, they were married a month later, on February 22nd. Caroline went on to have eight children with Nils, two daughters and six sons. Of their four youngest sons, one was stillborn, and the other three tragically died of croup in 1883.
Caroline and Nils built a life in Moroni and worked in farming. Caroline stayed in Moroni for the reset of her life. She developed diabetes and passed away on February 22, 1897 at the age of fifty-five. She was buried in the Moroni City Cemetery.
