Biography

Ann Nelson was born on March 17, 1839, in Gudum, Ålborg, Denmark. She was the sixth of eleven children. In 1853, when she was thirteen, her family left Denmark for Utah. Their journey was long, finally arriving in Utah on September 30, 1853. Shortly after their arrival, two of Ann's sisters married Goudy Ericsen Hogan, a Norwegian immigrant. In 1857, Ann also married Goudy, becoming his third wife.
Ann had nine children, four daughters and five sons, five of whom lived to adulthood. They lived in Richmond for several years before briefly relocating to southern Utah. They also joined the United Order in Orderville. However, Ann soon went back to Richmond, where she remained for the rest of her life. She loved making treats and often knitted for the children. She was well-loved by her family and community. Ann died on October 25, 1907, at the age of sixty-eight. She was buried in the Richmond City Cemetery.
