Biography
Christiana Nelson was born on January 6, 1830 in Gudum, Fleskum, Aalborg, Denmark. She was the eldest of eleven children. At some point, her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in 1853, Christiana left Denmark for Utah. She sailed on the ship the Forest Monarch, arriving in New Orleans on March 16, 1853. Then she crossed the plains with the John Forsgren company, arriving in Utah on September 30, 1853.
Within three months of her arrival, Christiana married Goudy Ericsen Hogan in Salt Lake City. They lived first in Bountiful and then in Richmond. Christiana had seven children, five daughters and two sons, but only three of her children lived to adulthood. She died in Richmond on November 12, 1904, at the age of seventy-four.
